This was a pretty amazing event in my life, so I thought I would blog about it! As most of you know, I work in the heart of Church Headquarters at temple square. I am a Banquet Server at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. It is my job to set up rooms and serve food on large weddings, or business meetings. Last night I was up on the tenth floor captaining a function for some group of engineering students from various universities throughout the state. As all of this was going on, there was a special dinner down the hall that the first presidency and most of the quorum of the 12 were attending. Of course I had a job to do, so I didn't take time to peak my head in and see the leaders of the Church. Near the end of the night, Lacey (one of my best friends at work) came up to tell me what she thought of my new temple dress. As we stood outside of the room I was in (with our sleeves rolled up, uniforms dirty from the day) President Monson walked by with some of his security guards. As Lacey and I stood there in awe of being in the Prophets presence he gives us a nice little wave and a "goodnight ladies." I'm pretty sure I looked like an idiot before responding with a "g'night sir!" Now this would have been enough to make me happy... but he looked at us both, then started walking towards us. He put his arms around us and walked us into the Wasatch Room where my team was cleaning. I laughed at their faces as they turned to see the Prophet standing in the doorway with his arms around me and lacey. He wished them all a goodnight, and as he turned back out, he said to us "of course I had to say goodnight to the ladies first." So what do you say to this? I think we both just sort of giggled... we stood there with our arms around the Prophet of the Lord not knowing exactly what to do or say... while his security guards are standing there watching our every move! He gave us one final squeeze, and walked away! I don't think Lacey and I have laughed that much in a long time. But in conclusion I'd like to say that I know he is truly a prophet of the Lord and that the Lord speaks through him. By following the words of the prophet we are able to truly help ourselves, our fellow men, and become more like Christ!
