Side Walk Art

Aloha! This is our chalk art "Plan of Salvation." We had a blast doing it one night. We finally got some chalk, and found a bus stop we knew people would be at that night. It was super fun, and Sister Apina is a great artist... with stick figures. As soon as we finished there was a bus load of people that we got to talk to :D The next morning we went back and the rain hadn't ruined it completely, so we touched it up a bit.

Other than that... Roseann and Wallace are still getting baptized next Saturday. I’m super excited for that! We’ve been working hard to get everything ready, and preparing for whatever could go wrong. The week before a baptism is always soo exciting. Soo many things can go wrong, and often do. But we're ready :D

We had our musical fireside last night. I'm soo glad it's over, honestly. It was good though. The chapel was full and the musical numbers performed by the ward members were amazing! I threw in some of the VC training and had referral cards for everyone that came in, and treated it kind of like if a member came to the VC. Throw the spirit at them, and teach them how to do missionary work! It went great... again, I'm glad it's over!

This week we get to do some service on the USS Missouri. I'm excited for that. It's right outside my front door, but I never actually get to go see it. All the missionaries, before they go home, get to go to the Arizona and the Missouri. Yay for seeing it early!

We taught a great lesson with a new investigator at Hickam. She's friends with a member of the ward, and we received a referral from the Hawaii VC for her. The VC sisters are rockin’ it up there. We have gotten 4 referrals from them in 2 weeks, for people that have come into the VC and asked to learn more! VC sisters rock.

Light Sabers

Yes, I had a killer light saber duel after stake conference yesterday.  I was soo fed-up with Sister Apina that I tried to destroy her.  OK that's a lie, but we did find 3 light sabers at the Hockett's house and we couldn't resist playing around with them.  Yes, we're having way too much fun. 

Roseann got home from vacation this week and decided that she wants to be baptized on the 4th of September! Yay! So she and two of her (step) grandchildren will be baptized together. I'm pretty darn excited. Things are going super good, and Sister Apina and I are working soo hard at being able to deserve the blessings the Lord has in store for this area.  Time has gone by soo fast, I can't believe she only has 2 more weeks here :(
 
We were looking for one of our ward members on Friday and we were having a really hard time finding the house. I thought it might have been knocked down because the lot was empty. But then we discovered a staircase to a house on the hill. Why not? So I had to go first, and it was kind of sketchy. It looked like no one had been on it in years! We lived... no worries. A board broke... but nothing too cool. That was my excitement for the day. (We found the member... a relative to someone I taught in the Kahuku Tongan Ward.)
 
We went bowling with Alanna (who was baptized in May) last Monday. It was Sister Teururu's first time bowling, and that was a show in itself....

Aloha! This is the picture from our hike last week. It was fun... We're planning on finding more. 

This week was pretty slow, not much happened honestly.  We had some great lessons with our investigators, I ate dinner at my favorite families house, and we spent a lot of time getting things ready for our musical fireside! Did I tell you about that already? Hmm... maybe. Any ways, we're having a musical fireside for our two wards. It should be good.
 
One Saturday we took one of the sisters out to lunch for her birthday. We went to Denny's in Pearl Ridge, and even though I'm on the complete other side of the island, I still ran into people I know. There was a family from my first area there, and then randomly a sailor from the Laie singles ward showed up.  I missed Denny’s. I got the two-two-two meal just like always. My companion and I split a never ending pancake plate. YUM!
 
We're working with a lot more investigators all of a sudden, we've been really blessed! I'm glad I’m still here, but I miss Laie! And the temple! It's almost done... and the open house will start in October!!!  The re-dedication will be in November, and it will be open for use on Nov. 22. I go home Dec. 2. There will be a cultural event, and the prophet is coming... I'm really nervous.  I can't wait!

It's been a super long week; I'll try to keep this as short as possible for all of you that have short attention spans like me :D

We started a 4 day leadership training this week; it was for all the zone leaders, district leaders, sister trainers, and other trainers on Oahu and Kaua'i. It was long... and I kind of felt like I was back in the MTC again. I left every morning at 0700 with the other sister trainer, and our companions went into their area. We drove down to the Honolulu Tabernacle where we sat for 7 hours and learned how to teach better :D I loved it. It was super humbling... I feel like a very green missionary when I try to apply the new stuff... Well it's not really new, just focusing on certain parts of teaching more. We have seen so many miracles since Tuesday when we started, including 6 new investigators this week. I know the Lord truly blessed our area because we sure didn't have time to do much.

Today we went on a nice little 4 mile hike. It was called the Aiea Loop Trail. No one in the zone had been on it, so we decided to try it. My ward mission leader said there were some parts of a plane that had crashed there back in the 40's or 50's, I can't remember what kind of plane. It came from Hickam though. We almost missed it, but one of the elders spotted some metal before we turned to curve. We got to do a little climbing down to it, but we ended up finding a large piece of the wing, the landing gear and tire, and part of the main body. That was pretty exciting. You can't see any of it from the trail accept the wing, so I'm glad we climbed through the trees.

That's kind of all the exciting things this week. I'm really really tired. We were going to rest today and get back the sleep we lost from the meetings being so early. But the hike was more better ;)

I'm going to go sleep now... or do our shopping....

USS Ronald Reagan!

I guess I have to write something this week because I don't have many pictures... darn.

So who's my new companion? An awesome mini-missionary named Sister Apina from Big Island. I had no idea I'd get a mini missionary till Tuesday morning at transfer meeting. *A mini missionary is a local asked to serve as a full time missionary for a short period of time because the mission might be short on missionaries*. She's a lot of fun. She's never been to the MTC, or on a mission at all... but she's willing to try and do anything.

Saturday we were on Hickam going to visit a family, and from across the flight line I saw this huge ship. I didn't think much of it till I saw that it had a great big 76 on the side. I thought, I know that ship... that's the USS Ronald Reagan. "We’re taking a detour" and we drove to the other side of the base where it borders Pearl Harbor. There’s a park right next to the water, and from there we were able to watch this huge air craft carrier go right in front of us into the harbor. The crew was on deck at attention around the railings, and it was pretty much one of the coolest things I've ever seen. It made my week.

Sunday was the best by far, however. We had 6 of our investigators at sacrament meeting, and the best was right after the opening hymn, I hear "Shove over Sister Bridge. I bet you weren't expecting us." I looked over and one of my favorite families wanted to sit next to us in sacrament. It was so funny.

Last week for p-day we had a great big water balloon fight at the stake center. That was fun.....

Other than that... things are pretty much the same! We have some amazing investigators right now, 3 of which said "I’m going to get baptized" yesterday. Things are pretty good! We had so many opportunities to tract and testify this week because I'm trying to help Sister Apina get used to tracting. It's been so great to talk to so many people!
